Personal Best Sees Sue Post Podium finish
How long does it take to become a certified golf tragic? About two years, according to Genesis Golf Link Cup Week 8 C Grade third placegetter Sue Davis.
That’s how long Sue has been playing golf after a sporting life that focussed mostly on tennis and marathon running.
But as the natural aging process made both those pursuits less satisfying, a friend introduced Sue to golf and it would be fair to say it has been like a second wind in terms of sport for the New Zealand native.
“I’m a complete golf nut,” Sue admits. “I love everything about it even though I’m not particularly good at it.
“From the people you play with to being outdoors to the challenge of competing with and against yourself, it’s just a unique and amazing sport.
“As I’m sure many, many people have said before me, I wish I had taken it up earlier in life.”
She credits listening to three audiobooks recently, which covered aspects of the mental game and putting, for her 44-point effort and, almost as impressive, backing up with 38 points the next day.
“I had a birdie and three pars on the front nine which for me is really good,” she says.
“And it was just one of those rounds where everything seemed to go right. I played well and got all the good breaks and holed a few putts.
“It was fantastic and a great motivator to keep practising and trying to improve.”
For her excellent play Sue has won a Titleist Tour Performance adjustable cap.
