Colin continues winning ways
Colin McNamara is no stranger to winning. The Genesis Golf Link Cup Golf on The Murray top scorer in A Grade has 99 Monthly Medals to his name and is hoping to crack the ton by Christmas.
Colin has been playing golf for 50 years and at 66 still maintains a single figure handicap, currently four but often as low as three.
A member at Finley Golf Club, near Tocumwal, Colin is no stranger to playing the courses that make up the Golf on the Murray Group and was stoked to hear he had qualified to play the Champions of the Murray Final next year.
“We’re blessed with so many great courses around here and we make the most of trying to get around and play them all as often as we can,” says Colin.
“It will be a real buzz to play the Champions of the Murray Final next year at Rich River, just another one of the fantastic courses in this area.”
While Colin is ecstatic to have won the special Golf on The Murray competition he is equally keen to notch his 100th Monthly Medal win at his home club and hopes to tee up at Rich River in June with at least that number in the trophy cabinet.
“Between the nett and scratch medals I’ve got to 99 so with a bit of luck I’m hoping to knock off the 100th before Christmas,” he says.
“I reckon about 60 per cent of them have been scratch wins and 40 per cent nett. It’s one of my proudest achievements in golf to have won that many.”
Margaret Ivory, of Gisborne Golf Club in Victoria, will also be heading for the Champions of The Murray Final in June as the top lady not otherwise qualified.
“This is a great concept and I’d certainly like to thank the Genesis Golf Link Cup as well as Golf on The Murray for running the competition,” said Colin.
